Advice to New Writers....

If writing is your passion, and you feel you must write or burst, then write, write, write.

And then get online; learn as much as you can about publishers, genres, critique groups, and start talking to other authors. Read their work and learn from osmosis.

Join author/publishing chat loops; you'll need the support of authors who have struggled, yet made it to Published Author status.

But most importantly, toss your work out there. Submit, submit, submit. Ask others to read and critique it. A manuscript on the the hard drive or under the bed will never fly if you don't give it the chance.

Going to Molly's next. :)

Great advice from someone who's been there. Don't you just cringe when you hear from a newbie who REALLLLY wants publication but is terrified to submit? I always think, "Oh honey, this is what you want. You HAVE to put it out there if you want publication. Take a breath. Hit send."

After being asked repeatedly if I was going to send off my books and people telling me they want to read more, I screwed up my courage and did it.

And then wanted to crawl into a hole ala 'What the hell have I DONE?', but with the praise, I realized people actually enjoyed what I'd written!

That first step is always hard!
